Pros & Cons
Pros
- Bundles a genuine Milwaukee M18 XC 5.0Ah battery with a charger in one kit
- 5.0Ah capacity gives meaningfully more runtime than Milwaukee's compact 2.0Ah/3.0Ah packs
- Genuine Milwaukee OEM, not a third-party bundle
- Good starter option if you're buying into M18 for the first time or need a spare battery-and-charger set
Cons
- Only includes one battery — no second pack for hot-swapping
- 5.0Ah packs are larger and heavier than compact packs, which can make lighter tools feel nose-heavy
- We haven't run a runtime test ourselves; 5.0Ah is the manufacturer's stated capacity

Overview
The Milwaukee 48-59-1850 M18 XC 5.0 Starter Kit bundles a genuine M18 5.0Ah battery with a charger in one purchase, priced at $112. It's aimed at two kinds of buyers: someone getting their first M18 tool and needing a battery-and-charger set from scratch, or an existing M18 owner who wants a second, higher-capacity pack plus a spare charger.
We haven't bench-tested the battery or timed the charger in this kit. This is a straightforward look at what it includes, who it's for, and where the value actually sits.

Who it's for
This kit fits well if you're buying into M18 for the first time and need both a battery and a charger, or if you already own M18 tools and want a 5.0Ah pack (more runtime than a compact 2.0Ah/3.0Ah pack) along with a backup charger. It includes only one battery, so it's not built for hot-swapping between two packs on the same job — for that, you'd want to add a second battery separately.
Compatibility
The 5.0Ah battery in this kit fits every M18 and M18 FUEL tool, since Milwaukee has kept the platform backward compatible since 2011. It won't fit M12 tools — different voltage and footprint entirely. If you eventually add M12 tools to your kit, you'd need a separate M12 battery or a dual-voltage M12/M18 charger.
Genuine Milwaukee, not a third-party bundle
Both the battery and charger in this kit are genuine Milwaukee OEM parts, which means Milwaukee's 5-year warranty applies. That distinguishes it from cheaper third-party battery-and-charger bundles marketed as M18-compatible, which carry no Milwaukee warranty and no guarantee the protection electronics match Milwaukee's tools.
Buying notes
5.0Ah packs are larger and heavier than Milwaukee's compact 2.0Ah packs, which can make lighter tools like a small driver feel nose-heavy — worth considering if most of your use is light, one-handed work. At $112 for a genuine battery-plus-charger bundle, this is reasonable value if you need both pieces; if you already own a charger, buying the 5.0Ah battery alone would be cheaper.
My Verdict
A solid way to add a genuine, higher-capacity M18 battery and charger in one purchase — good value if you need more runtime than a starter 2.0Ah kit provides.
